Here are the steps involved:
Choose your firearm/s. Step into our showroom and check out the range available. We can assist you work out the most suitable choice for your requirements. We can order in firearms for you if we don’t have them in stock. Alternatively, we can assist with private purchasing of firearms by providing serviceability certificates & guide you in the application process (completed on the firearms portal).
Log into the WA Police Firearms Portal https://firearms.police.wa.gov.au/ – there are two ways you can do this. Use MyID application on your smartphone or 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) with your email address. There is a non digital ID alternative for registering however this does not get you onto the portal.
Obtain a written authority for hunting. Depending on what calibre you are seeking to licence, you will need to obtain a written authority from someone that owns enough acreage, or register the land you own. To obtain a written authority from a land holder they just require your application number and surname, they enter your information on their portal & the permission is issued immediately.
If you are a land holder you need to register your property (on the portal) – using the title details from Landgate (Volume & Folio numbers). Just follow the prompts which will require you to disclose what your farm does specifically, describe the land & what vermin are present. Once your farm is approved, there will be several written authorities (these are what replaced the old property letter system) that you can allocate digitally using that system for family & friends / professionals that you authorise to shoot on your place. Log onto TAFE and enrol in the Firearm Theory Course https://www.centralregionaltafe.wa.edu.au/courses/wapol-firearm-safety-training-course-theory – Costs $100
Obtain a firearms medical https://www.wa.gov.au/system/files/2024-12/firearms-act-reform-2024-firearms-authority-health-standards.pdf – touch base with your doctor & check they are willing to do it. Cost varies between $200-400.
Practical Firearms Assessment (safe handling): Once you have commenced your application, you will be able to book in for this at our shop. This should take about 30 minutes and covers:
The applicant demonstrates proper safety and handling procedures when receiving a firearm.
The applicant acknowledges and follows all safety, exhibit control and situational awareness, and demonstrate a clear understanding of proper handling protocols throughout the process.
The applicant must demonstrate a clear understanding of the legislative requirements for transporting firearms.

Complete your application – this is completed through the portal. All firearms require a serviceability certificate each and all of the above points addressed before the application can be successfully submitted. We can assist you with this if required.
Firearms Storage: You will be required to install a compliant firearms safe in accordance with the Firearms Regulations 2024. You will need to submit a Storage Statement and photographs of it installed.
